As a father of three
daughters, all of whom attended various Montessori schools back in the late 70’s, I thought I had a basic understanding
about Montessori education. However, when I started to work at my mother’s Montessori school in January
of 1991, I was amazed at how much more I could have known. It has become my passion to help parents realize the importance
of learning along with their child. What is truly best for children is not necessarily what is popular or convenient. Some
of us had great parents that were role models for us, others did not. Nevertheless, for most of us what we know about parenting
is what we learned from our parents. Like it or not, we are often imitating their strengths or weaknesses. I think the biggest
danger is becoming self satisfied with our personal knowledge of parenting and our understanding of our children. There is
so much great information available now. We can really make changes for the better by being open to taking in new information
and growing in our knowledge and understanding along with our child. T.K.
